Tambor is a horseshoe bay called Bahia Ballena, “Whales Bay”, during the summer whales come to visit, currently, with the increase of activity in the region, they are staying in the further out borders.
The volcanic history serves up grey-colored, hard-packed sand which gently slopes into the crescent bay. Low tide produces a broad expanse of beach and the shallow waters are exceedingly calm, offering good swimming for even the timidest of bathers.
